IHT becomes member of the Task 24 of the Project IEA HIA

The purpose is to study and integrate hydrogen into an electricity generating system based on wind turbines.

HIA : HYDROGEN IMPLEMENTING AGREEMENT

As a designer and manufacturer of electrolysers, IHT has an important role in the investigation related to the use of electrolysis in this type of system.

After the kick off meeting in April 2007 at the“Parque Tecnológico Walqa” (Spain), IHT established business relations with the managers of the Hydrogen Foundation of Aragón, leaders of the task 24, to whom the park belongs. IHT signed a cooperation agreement with them focused on a project in which IHT will supply the electrolyser and complete engineering for a high pressure electrolysis plant with a production capacity of 10 Nm3 H2/h extendible to 20 Nm3 H2/h.

The first project meeting of the task 24, organised by the ITC, the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands, was held in October 2007 in Gran Canaria. IHT presented a conference about the type of electrolyser best adapted for integration into a renewable energy generating system.

The high pressure IHT electrolyser was retained as the optimal solution for variable current applications, contrary to the atmospheric type of electrolyser which is less suited due to its process inertia and low reactivity.

As a partner of the task 24, IHT appears as one of the main future electrolyser manufacturers for pilot plants and testing facility applications, thanks to its large know how in the high pressure field and to its wide product range, including electrolysers that reach powers of more than 3.5MW.

IHT will host the third meeting of the task 24 of the project IEA HIA, in October 2008 in Monthey, Switzerland. The participants will have the chance to visit a 2 x 760 Nm3 H2/h plant in industrial operation combined with a visit to our factory so as to experience most of the electrolyser manufacturing steps.
