In the second half of 2007, IHT joined a research group of universities from Denmark and an Italian company in order to contribute to the WELTEMP project, belonging to the 7 th Frame Program of the European Community and which purpose is to investigate on high temperature electrolysis. The role of IHT in this project will be to manufacture a prototype of a high temperature electrolyser whose characteristics will be the results of three years of investigation, from 2008 untill 2010.
The application, submitted to a commission of experts from the European Community in September 2007, has been approved. The project was launched in January 2008.
The main object of the WELTEMP project is to design an electrolyser with an increased efficiency due to a higher operating temperature. For IHT the challenges will be related to the materials, diaphragms, gasket design as well as processes. |
